An Italian-made brass umbrella stand handcrafted from a large artillery shell in a Trench Art/Liberty style, dating to 1980–1990, in discrete condition with probable small missing pieces.
Description from the seller
Splendid and exclusive umbrella stand made entirely by hand according to the tradition of Trench Art (Art of the Trenches). This unique piece originates from the salvaging of a massive brass artillery shell casing, masterfully transformed into a visually striking decorative object.
The peculiarity of this specimen lies in the extraordinary workmanship of the upper part: the metal has been cut and shaped to create a corolla of outward-extending and sinuous petals. Each petal features a raised central vein that recalls the organic forms of Art Nouveau (Liberty Style), creating a fascinating contrast between the military nature of the material and the elegance of the final design.
On the base, the original factory stamps are clearly visible (including the initials "SM" and numeric codes), which certify its authenticity as a converted war relic.
Technical details
Function: Umbrella stand / Large floor vase.
Material: Thick-walled solid brass.
Style: Trench Art / Liberty / Industrial.
Processing: manual cutting, hot forging, and embossing.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The item retains its original patina that tells its story; it shows the typical signs of aging that enhance its charm and collectible value.
Note for the collector
This umbrella stand represents a perfect example of historical “upcycling.” It is a unique piece, ideal for giving character to an elegant entrance, a professional studio, or to enrich a militaria collection with a refined and unconventional item. The solidity of the brass and the heavy base guarantee perfect stability.
