Description from the seller
A Bronze Age bronze arrowhead, featuring a deltoid blade with downward-curving shoulders forming short barbs. Running down the centre is a prominent midrib that leads to a short cylindrical stem and a long, narrow tang. There is patination and earthy encrustation to the surface as well as chipping along the edges of the blade.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 16cm x W 2.9cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
