Bronze Age group of three arrowheads made of bronze with triangular blades and a raised midrib, measuring about 7.3–8.9 cm long and 1.6–2.3 cm wide, in good condition and dating to circa 1200–600 BC, from a private collection with provenance Ex. London Collection (formed 1990–present).
Description from the seller
A group of three Bronze Age bronze arrowheads. All three arrowheads feature triangular blades with a raised central midrib that leads to a short stem and narrow tang. One of the arrowheads features square shoulders, the other upward sloping shoulders, and the last arrowhead features barbs, though one has chipped. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chips to the edges, scratches, and surface roughness.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 7.3-8.9cm x W 1.6-2.3cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
