Wooden wall mirror with an antique-style frame, from France, dating to the first half of the 20th century, featuring a carved and water-gilded frame and external dimensions of 95 × 56 cm (internal 90 × 50 cm), in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Historical wall mirror with a carved crest and water gilding – Baroque tradition, 20th century
Important wall mirror of historic character, crafted in carved and stuccoed wood, with water-gilding, following decorative models of Baroque tradition. The piece features an elegant vertical format, topped by a richly carved upper pediment with scrolls and symmetrical botanical motifs, a distinctive element of display mirrors inspired by Late Baroque.
The frame is richly worked, with deep molding and prominent elements along its entire perimeter, devised to enhance the play of light on the gilding. The quality of the carving and the harmony of the whole recall nineteenth-century historicist productions, made according to classical canons and intended for prestigious interiors.
Preserves its antique crystal, with patina, slight undulations, and small imperfections typical of the passage of time—features common and valued in original period pieces. The gilding shows natural wear and small pinpoint losses, consistent with its age and that reinforce its authenticity.
20th century
Style: historicist Baroque
Material: carved and stuccoed wood, water-gilded.
Condition: good, with original patina and signs of aging appropriate to the period.
Dimensions:
– Height: 96 cm
– Width: 56 cm
A decorative piece with a commanding presence and elegance, ideal for collectors of decorative arts, classic interiors, or high-end historical ambience projects.
