Description from the seller
FIVE GIRLS
Samuel Haskins aka Sam Haskins
Five Girls is one of the first and most important publications by Sam Haskins, as well as one of the most influential photobooks of the early 1960s. The volume presents a sequence of images dedicated to five young women, told through a direct, modern photographic language that was strongly innovative for the era.
Far from traditional glossy photography, Haskins experiments with dynamic framing, narrative rhythm, and an elegant, natural sensuality. Five Girls anticipates many of the visual solutions that the author will fully develop in his later works, becoming a touchstone in the history of the photobook.
Sam Haskins (1926–2009) was a South African-born British photographer, regarded as a key figure in the transformation of fashion photography and the photobook in the 20th century.
His narrative and graphical approach has influenced generations of photographers, and works such as Five Girls and Cowboy Kate & Other Stories are today regarded as absolute landmarks of the international photobook.
Condition: Excellent, with normal signs of wear.
