Description from the seller
Figurative mantel clock in gilded régule, E. Bénard, Paris, late 19th century.
Figurative mantel clock in gilded régule, depicting a young hunter in 18th-century dress, accompanied by his dog, in a naturalistic setting consisting of rocks and foliage.
The scene is richly worked, with a high level of detail in the figure of the character, in the clothing and in the animal, typical of Parisian productions from the late 19th century.
The base, in Rococo style, rests on scroll feet and decorative cartouches, which are very characteristic of French decorative clocks from this period.
The clock bears on the back a circular seal: "E. Bénard- Breveté Médaille- Paris", identifying a renowned Parisian manufacturer, active at the end of the 19th century, specializing in the production of clocks and decorative objects in régule of good quality, designed for a bourgeois clientele.
The movement is a key-wound mechanical movement, with balance wheel and key present.
White enamel dial with Roman numerals.
It works and rings.
Overall good condition of preservation, wear and fading of the gilding consistent with age, visible internal oxidation, no structural damage observed, complete set including balance wheel and key, see the photos—they are part of the description.
