Pair of large sectioned ammonites (Phylloceras sp.) from Morondava, Madagascar, dating to the Upper Cretaceous, in natural condition, two items totaling 5.68 kg with amber calcite chambers and open crystalline pockets visible in each specimen.
Description from the seller
Exceptional Matched Pair of Large Sectioned Ammonites – Amber Calcite Chambers
This remarkable matched pair of sectioned ammonites displays an extraordinary internal structure, beautifully revealed through expert cutting and polishing. The chambers are filled with radiant calcite crystals in deep amber and honey tones, creating a warm, luminous effect that enhances the fossil’s natural geometry.
Several chambers exhibit open crystalline pockets reminiscent of natural geodes, adding depth, texture, and visual intrigue. Subtle variations in color — from golden caramel to darker cognac hues — further highlight the mineralization process that took place over millions of years.
The two halves complement each other perfectly, forming an impressive display whether presented together or separately. Their substantial size and weight give the specimens a strong presence, making them ideal centerpiece pieces for a serious fossil collection or refined interior display.
Plastic display bases are included for secure and elegant presentation.
Dimensions
Specimen 1: 2.817 kg — 25 × 19 × 6 cm
Specimen 2: 2.868 kg — 25.3 × 18.3 × 6 cm
A striking combination of natural history, geological artistry, and decorative appeal, this museum-quality pair represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors seeking fossils of both scientific interest and exceptional aesthetic value.
