Description from the seller
Hand-knotted Afghan oriental rug in the classic Gul design
This hand-knotted rug comes from Afghanistan and features a traditional Afghan Gul pattern, as is typical for Central Asian and Turkmen-influenced weaving traditions. The construction is clearly structured, strictly symmetrical, and emphasizes the graphic impact of the design.
The deep-red background field is dominated by regularly arranged octagonal Gul motifs, rendered in dark brown, black, and cream accents. These central medallions are spaced at equal distances, creating a calm, rhythmic surface effect. Small secondary motifs and filler ornaments subtly relieve the field without disturbing the clear structure.
The surrounding border is multi-tiered and echoes geometric ornaments and stylized linear motifs that frame the central field powerfully. The color palette remains deliberately restrained and emphasizes the traditional, down-to-earth character of this rug.
Overall, the rug feels sturdy, authentic, and timeless—a classic example of Afghan knotting, particularly well suited for hallways, smaller rooms, or as an accent piece.
