Description from the seller

- Origin: Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Name of the tribe: YOMBE
- Materials: Wood - aluminum casting block - animal hair
- Dimensions (in mm): 490x47x51
- Weight (in grams): 242
- Shipping method: Colissimo + Insurance

This exceptional Yombe object is of great quality in its craftsmanship. As with statues of the same group, the fineness of the details in such a small space, on the handle, indicates a high level of mastery on the part of the sculptor. Wear and patina are due to its use. The introduction of aluminum blocks confirms its creation around the mid-20th century.
The Portuguese traversed the Congo via the estuary of the Congo River and there encountered the Yombe of the Kongo ethnic group, one of the first Congolese ethnic groups they discovered.
The introduction of aluminum in the late 1930s by the colonists benefited these ethnic groups.
The Yombe (Bayombe) are a subgroup of the large Kongo ethnic group, mainly settled in the Mayombe region in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kongo Central), in the southwest of the Republic of the Congo and in Cabinda (Angola).
