Botanist's microscope or floroscope — around 1900
Also called the pocket microscope, they were in use as early as 1850. These devices are fitted with two lenses placed at the ends of a cylindrical brass body. The first lens, for observations requiring low magnification, is a biconvex lens magnifying about three times and mounted on an openwork cylinder. The second, for magnifications of around twenty times, is a Stanhope lens. This type of device was used for scientific field observations. Height 7 cm, diameter 2 cm.
