Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was one of the most influential architects, designers, and urban planners of the 20th century, known for elevating technical rigor to a form of art. A Milanese by birth, he earned a degree from the Politecnico di Milano in 1948 before moving to the United States, where he met masters such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe.
His design philosophy, described in the essay 'In the Name of Architecture', was based on the balance between functionality and the pursuit of innovative structural solutions, such as the famous glue- or screw-free assembly systems. During his career, Mangiarotti received prestigious awards, including the Compasso d'Oro for lifetime achievement in 1994.
