Description from the seller
This charming Delft tile tableau brings to life the nostalgia of Dutch water life. The tableau consists of six hand-painted tiles and depicts a atmospheric maritime scene with traditional sailing ships calmly anchored along the coast. The warm earth tones and subtle blues give the whole piece a particularly lively and timeless appearance.
The plaque is mounted in a handsome wooden frame that complements the tiles' classic appearance. The depiction is executed in the characteristic style closely associated with Dutch tile art from the 20th century. At the bottom the work is signed “Deff Polychrome Holland,” a designation often linked to decorative tile productions from the period roughly 1950 to 1970. Based on style, signature and execution, this tile plaque can with high probability be dated to the mid-20th century.
The tableau is in good vintage condition, with normal, age-related signs of wear appropriate to its age. The colors are still bright, and the piece has a particularly decorative character, ideal for lovers of maritime art, Dutch tile art, or classic wall decor.
An atmospheric and authentic collectible that has a lot to offer, both historically and as a decorative piece.
