Rare photographic book 'Body Haiku' by the renowned Italian fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri, published in 2007 by Dolci Japan Gallery.
The book illustrates helmets and war masks of ancient Japan (like the one visible in the image) placed in dynamic, highly intense contexts.
In keeping with the tradition of Haiku poetry, Barbieri fuses past and present, creating portraits that unite static energies and dynamic forces into images of "haunting beauty".
It is a large-format volume (about 40 x 30 cm) with a publisher's binding and black-and-white photographs.
The work explores the fascination with medieval Japanese armor, symbolically linking them to the challenges and threats of the modern era through the analysis of texts from Esoteric Buddhism. A premium hardbound edition with a white slipcase. The book is new and unread.
