Description from the seller

For sale is a fine, unmarked lidded stoneware jar (Black Basalt?), probably from one of the prominent manufacturers in Staffordshire (e.g., Elijah Mayer, John Turner, or Adams).
Special features
• The bulbous body is adorned with high-quality bas-reliefs that encircle it, depicting classical putti scenes in an Arcadian landscape.
• Ornamentation: The applied volute rosettes on the shoulder and the lid are particularly noteworthy, giving the piece a rare, distinctive character.
• Lid: A fully three-dimensional, throne-like figure in antique attire serves as the knob, finely detailed.
• Material: Velvety, matte-black stoneware with the typical, slightly brownish glaze on the foot ring, which points to an early formulation from the 19th century.
Condition: Very good antique condition. No cracks or major damages. Minor age-related signs of wear on the edges and on the figure's shoe (please refer to the photos).
