Italian-made linen tablecloth with coordinated napkins, dating from 1910–1920, in pristine condition, weight 2 kg, dimensions 280 x 240 cm.
Description from the seller
This is a piece of high textile craftsmanship, a classic example of luxury household linen typical of European tradition (very common in fine Italian or French productions from the first half of the 20th century). It is pure linen in ivory or natural cream. The weave is dense and regular, a sign of high-quality thread that offers a cool feel to the touch and great durability over time.
Lacework: The most precious feature is the wide border in Cantù lace (or bobbin lace of the Venice type). A very complex workmanship is evident with:
Venice Stitch and Net Stitch: The different densities of the lace create a play of transparencies and reliefs.
Floral Motifs and Scrolls: The lace pattern is rich in baroque and stylized floral motifs, which extend toward the interior of the tablecloth with scalloped tips.
Embroidery and Finishes:
Satin Stitch and Grass Stitch: The body of the tablecloth features delicate hand-embroidered floral motifs that echo the lace patterns.
Lace Holes (Hemstitch): The connection between the lace and the linen fabric is finished with a meticulous hemstitch, serving as a decorative frame.
Intaglio: Small intaglio inserts with eyelet finishes are present within the floral embroidery.
The Napkins
The coordinated napkins reproduce the same style as the tablecloth:
They feature a corner lace insert identical to that of the main edge.
The edges are finished with an extremely fine hand-sewn hem, preserving the elegance of the entire set.
