Rare handmade wooden lamp with Arts & Crafts and Secession influences, dated circa 1900–1920, 25 cm wide, 25 cm deep, 41 cm high, weighing 500 g, from France, in good used condition with natural patina and minor age-related cracks at joins, not in working order.
Description from the seller
The item up for auction is an exceptionally rare, handmade table lamp rendered in the Arts & Crafts Movement aesthetic (the Arts and Crafts Movement) with evident Art Nouveau influences. The lamp constitutes an outstanding example of artistic craftsmanship from the early 20th century (dated to the years around 1900–1920).
Characteristics and Execution:
Material: softwood
Technique: intricate openwork cutouts (fretwork). The lampshade in the form of a pyramid is adorned with flowing, floral motifs typical of Art Nouveau, while the base maintains a starker, geometric form of the Mission/Craftsman style.
Construction: Classic for the era, built on precise dowel joints and mortise-and-tenon joints (no visible screws), which attests to the high level of the workshop's craftsmanship.
Behavior Status:
Visual: Very good antique condition. The wood has a natural patina. Only minor, age-appropriate drying cracks at the panel joints are visible, which add authenticity to the item (see photos).
Technical: The lamp is fully functional. It has undergone a professional renovation of the electrical system – it features a new, stylish 2.5 m cord with a textile sheath (gold color) and a modern switch, which ensures safe operation while preserving the retro atmosphere.
