Two early 20th‑century British walking canes with hallmarked silver mounts, one with a bamboo curved handle and London assay dated 1902 (maker NFCF, Rd No. 395690) and a repaired shaft, the other with a curved wooden handle and Birmingham assay dated 1912 (maker HC&S), both in fair to good antique condition.
Description from the seller
Two early 20th-century British walking canes, both with hallmarked silver mounts. The first cane features a curved bamboo handle with a silver cap, London assay, dated 1902, with maker’s mark NFCF and registration number Rd No. 395690. This cane shows visible signs of repair to the shaft near the ferrule and is therefore in delicate condition; the repair appears stable but is clearly visible and should be noted. The silver mount shows surface wear and patina consistent with age, and the bamboo handle displays natural nodes and colour variation.
The second cane has a curved wooden handle with a silver cap, Birmingham assay, dated 1912, with maker’s mark HC&S. The wooden shaft shows attractive grain and honest age-related wear, while the silver mount exhibits light surface wear and patination. Both canes show surface marks and handling wear throughout, with ferrules showing expected wear from use. No attempt has been made to disguise wear or repairs.
Overall, the lot is offered in fair to good antique condition, with the first cane noted as delicate due to the shaft repair, and the second in better overall condition. An appealing pair of early 20th-century British walking canes with clear assay marks and dating, suitable for collectors or decorative display.
