Description from the seller
Finnish bronze necklace with an openwork pendant featuring a lace motif – design by Pentti Sarpaneva, Finland, circa 1970
A very characteristic bronze necklace with a sculptural pendant, designed by the Finnish designer Pentti Sarpaneva (1925–1978) – one of the most prominent names in Scandinavian jewelry metallurgy of the 1960s and 1970s.
The lace-motif pendant is built up from a complex openwork lattice of geometric shapes, with a rough, almost melted texture that creates a strong light-dark play. This combination of organic ruggedness and graphic precision is characteristic of Sarpaneva’s signature style, in which he blurred the boundary between a piece of art and jewelry.
The warm bronze has a beautifully aged patina and hangs from an original matching chain with a hook clasp. The piece exudes the spirit of Finnish modernism: expressive, bold, and timeless in its simplicity.
