Description from the seller
Splendid vintage silver-plated bowl, Quist, West Germany.
This is a magnificent vintage bowl (or serving plate/fruit dish) produced by the renowned German company Quist (Friedrich Wilhelm Quist, Esslingen), with the mark "Made in West Germany." This places its production between 1949 and the mid-1960s, a period known for high-quality design that often combined Art Deco aesthetics with a modern, linear postwar style.
Main Features
Distinctive Design: It features an elegant scalloped and pierced edge with an intricate floral or leaf motif, which enhances its refinement. The smooth inner finish with a brushed effect creates an attractive reflective look.
Material and Finish: The object is silver-plated metal (often on brass or nickel silver), known for its resistance to oxidation and for a rich and regal appearance.
Versatility: Ideal as a centerpiece, fruit bowl, or for serving desserts and candies. It is a decorative piece of great charm that adds a touch of elegance to any setting.
Conditions:
The item is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear and small superficial scratches consistent with its age and use, which do not compromise its beauty.
A quick note: it bears a certain resemblance to the WMF Ikora line, both known for Mid-Century Modern and Art Deco styling, often with a silver finish and glossy or brushed interiors.
La Quist and WMF were both prominent German companies, specializing in high-quality silver-plated metalware, and they competed in the same market for silver-plated luxury items.
The Quist bowl fits perfectly with this style, with its clean design and reflective interior surface.
