This exquisite antique silver item from Hanau, Germany, is a small brazier (also known as a sauce warmer, brandy warmer, or miniature chafing pan), designed for gently heating sauces, spirits like brandy, or small portions of food/liquid over a flame or spirit lamp. Hanau was a major hub for such ornate silverware in the late 19th to early 20th century, with workshops producing high-quality pieces in Rococo revival style featuring elaborate cast details, often in .800 silver standard.
The piece features a shallow, rounded bowl (diameter 9.5 cm) with a beaded or reeded rim, raised on three ornate cast feet modeled as claw-and-ball (or paw) supports accented by acanthus leaf or foliate motifs—classic Rococo elements popular in Hanau revival work. The long, outward-curving handle (contributing to the 30 cm overall width) is silver-mounted with a turned wooden grip (likely fruitwood or similar, insulated for safe handling when hot), secured by a ferrule or rivet. The bowl interior shows fine hand-finishing with light concentric polishing marks, while the exterior and feet display crisp chasing and casting. A period monogram "E.M.R." (or similar flowing script) is engraved to the body, adding personalized historical charm typical of such table accessories.
Dimensions: 30 cm wide (handle to handle/foot span), 8 cm high, bowl 9.5 cm diameter. Weight: 169.3 g (800 silver content, approx. 5.45 troy oz), consistent with quality Continental construction rather than plated.

Condition: Very good antique condition overall, suitable for premium auction presentation. The silver retains bright polish and luster with no major dents, splits, holes, or restorations. Minor age-appropriate wear includes light surface scratches, fine circular swirl marks (from polishing, especially interior base and underside), and subtle tarnish traces in crevices around the feet and monogram. The claw feet are intact, stable, and level with no bending or solder repairs visible. The wooden handle shows natural patina and minor handling wear but remains firmly attached without cracks or looseness. Hallmarks (likely Hanau partially worn) are present on the underside, supporting authenticity as period Hanau production (often by makers like Neresheimer or similar workshops).
This compact, functional brazier exemplifies Hanau's mastery of revival styles, blending practicality with decorative opulence—ideal for collectors of Continental silver, Rococo tableware, or small warming vessels. It would display beautifully in a collection of antique silver miniatures or as a statement piece on a sideboard or dining setting.
