Description from the seller
Arabia Pro Arte / Arabia Ateljé, Finland – Heljä Liukko-Sundström – Sculptural Centerpiece Bowl - ca. 1980s
This elegant and sculptural white ceramic Finnish serving dish in the shape of a bird is a design by Heljä Liukko-Sundström, (1938–2024) produced by Arabia within the prestigious Pro Arte / Art Department of Arabia. A beautiful example of high-quality Scandinavian ceramics from the 1980s, where form, light, and nature come together.
The bowl is characterized by an organic, undulating form with an asymmetric edge, inspired by water, ice, and the Finnish landscape. The pure white glaze emphasizes the flowing lines and gives the object a serene, almost ethereal appearance. As a result, the bowl functions not only as a utilitarian object but especially as a work of art and a table sculpture.
Heljä Liukko-Sundström was known for her poetic and nature-inspired formal language. Her work for Arabia Pro Arte was produced in small editions and was intended for an audience that values design, art, and craftsmanship. This makes objects like this bowl particularly beloved by collectors of Finnish design and studio ceramics.
The bowl is versatile: as a fruit bowl, a centerpiece on the table or on a sideboard, or simply as a sculptural object in a Scandinavian or modern interior. Its timeless design effortlessly fits into both vintage and contemporary settings.
The bowl is in excellent vintage condition. A rare and elegant piece of modern Finnish design.
