Description from the seller

This large planter, crafted in the second half of the 20th century, is a carefully considered reinterpretation of the Louis XVI style, made of wood and clad with a mahogany laminate that provides a warm and deep tone. The surface shows pronounced grain and a glossy finish that enhances the sense of a noble piece of furniture.

The upper body takes the form of a rectangular drawer with sober, balanced lines. At the front, a panel with root-wood decorative veneers stands out, a refined detail that introduces visual variation and recalls the French taste for surfaces richly worked. The ensemble rests on four stylized, slightly curved legs, evoking the transition between classical rigidity and the softness of the shapes of eighteenth-century furniture.

The piece also features a lower shelf, likewise rectangular, which repeats the design of the main body and provides visual stability and functionality. This symmetry and repetition of shapes are consistent with the neoclassical spirit: proportion, order, and restrained elegance.

Although manufactured in the 20th century, the jardinière aptly captures the essential features of the Louis XVI style: the pursuit of balance, the absence of ornamental excesses, the prominence of noble woods, and precision in the lines. The result is a decorative, solid, and distinguished piece of furniture, capable of fitting into both classical interiors and contemporary spaces that seek a piece with character.
