Set foo dogs - Bronze - China - Late 20th century

Beautiful set of foo dogs.

Foo dogs (also known as Fu dogs, Fu lions, or Chinese guardian lions) are traditional Chinese protective statues that are often placed in pairs in front of temples, palaces, important buildings, and homes.

Symbolism and function:
They serve as spiritual guardians who ward off evil and bring good luck.
Always in pairs: the male specimen (on the right) has his paw on an embroidered ball (a symbol of power), the female (on the left) has a cub beneath her paw (a symbol of nurturing).
Despite the name "dog", they are actually stylized lions.

The statue is in good used condition with signs of aging. (See photos)
