A silver-plated double chafer warmer by Christofle for Gallia, France, in a Mid-Century Modern design, with two burners and dimensions 36 × 36 × 14 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Refined double silver-plated food warmer, made by Maison Gallia Christofle for its historic Gallia line, a range intended for high-quality functional objects, characterized by solid construction, sober elegance, and great attention to design.
The structure features an oval gallery shape, designed to support serving dishes and keep them warm thanks to two original burners located at the center. The design is balanced and harmonious, with clean lines and well-calibrated proportions, typical of Gallia's early twentieth-century production, often intended for both domestic use and representation.
The original Christofle – Gallia stamps are visible, confirming authenticity and production at the Christofle manufactories in France.
Historical notes
The Gallia line was born at the beginning of the 20th century as a parallel production of the Maison Christofle, dedicated to tableware and everyday service objects of a higher standard. The Gallia items are distinguished by excellent silver plating, structural robustness, and a sober decorative language, often influenced by Art Déco currents and French modernism.
Gallia lunch warmers were essential elements in bourgeois tables and formal dining rooms, demonstrating the art of entertaining typical of the era.
