Marble bas-relief in a richly gilded frame in antique Baroque style, titled Mythologische scène, unsigned, originating from the United Kingdom, measuring 28 cm wide, 28 cm high and 5 cm deep, and depicting a mythological scene with a young satyr, a flute-playing woman and a putto in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This is a bas-relief (low relief) in marble, set in an ornate gilded frame, presumably from the 19th century or possibly the early 20th century. A depiction of a mythological scene. Strongly influenced by the neoclassical or Baroque style, commonly found in decorative arts of the 18th and 19th centuries.
This intriguing artwork is a marble relief with an ornately decorated gilded frame, and shows a graceful scene of a young satyr with a flute-playing woman and an angelic figure (putto or cherub). The work exudes classical beauty and evokes associations with Renaissance and Baroque art, in which angels, putti, and mythological scenes often played a central role.
The round relief, in finely worked detail, shows two figures lovingly entwined with each other as well as a young satyr. The soft curves, expressive faces and graceful details have been carved with great precision. The composition exudes a sense of playfulness, innocence and heavenly calm.
The frame is particularly rich: a gilded frame with rococo-like elements such as acanthus leaves, shell motifs and floral ornaments. This gilded frame contrasts beautifully with the matte white marble of the relief, giving the work even more depth and elegance.
