A hand-carved French oval gilded frame in wood and plaster, dating to the 19th century, measuring external 50×40 cm and internal light 34×26 cm, in good condition with age marks and patina, suitable for paintings, miniatures or mirrors.
Description from the seller
A prestigious French gold oval frame, hand-carved, is being offered at auction.
Measures
Exterior 50x40 cm
Interior (light) 34x26 cm
Oval frame of French manufacture, finely hand-carved and featuring three levels of carving, made from three joined pieces.
The profile features a complex decorative pattern:
Exterior band enriched by a double decorative order with vegetal and leafy motifs treated in different styles, which confer movement and depth to the surface;
the main central order, more pronounced, characterized by a rich floral relief decoration, with a continuous course along the entire perimeter;
The apex is emphasized by a carved central flower, a focal element that underscores the frame’s vertical axis and reinforces its elegant composition.
The surface is gilt with fine gold, with patina and a worn green color, treated with whitewash, which yields an authentic, aged appearance consistent with the object's age. The abrasions and wear are harmonious and do not alter the readability of the relief engraving; on the contrary, they enhance its relief and materiality.
Frame of remarkable craftsmanship, suitable both for framing paintings, miniatures, or mirrors, and as an autonomous decorative object, representative of the 19th-century French ornamental taste.
