Etienne Jules Marey - La Chronophotographie - 1899

Etienne Jules Marey has been a great source of inspiration for many avant-garde artists during XXth century. He presented this lecture on his methodology, apparatus, and its implications at a conference held at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, 29 January 1899. This publication was published at this occasion with the annales of the conservatory (3ème série Tome 1). Among the reproductions are the chronophotographs that prove a cat lands on all four feet when thrown in the air. His method of single camera decomposed motion led to the projected motion picture, to the paintings of Duchamp and the Italian futurists.
