Description from the seller
Rarest exceptionally signed copy on the half-title page by Sandra Kantanen (born 1974). 124 pages, 55 color photographs, most full-page or double-page, texts in English. Sturdy hardcover bound with illustrated cover (no dust jacket as issued).
Sandra Kantanen's photographs depict a natural world in metamorphosis. In her practice, photography and painting unite to continually destabilize the viewer. By mastering the most subtle photographic qualities of light and incorporating them into alternative digital processes, she creates images that perfectly balance a chaos of colors meticulously orchestrated, playing with distortions, blurs, and brushstrokes.
I sought to understand photography by dissecting light, what lies in front of the lens, where is the image recorded? Is it an image of reality? What is real? I began to combine photography and painting to explore what photography is not. Landscape became my field of exploration to answer these questions. I went to China to study Chinese landscape painting. For years, I trekked across their sacred mountains in search of an image that lay sleeping within me.
Sandra Kantanen was born in 1974 in Finland and trained in photography at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University in Helsinki, then at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where she studied painting. Sandra Kantanen's work is held in major public collections in the United States, in Asia and in Europe, and she has already published several books.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the utmost care. The shipment is very securely packaged and international postal tracking is guaranteed. For multiple purchases, it is possible to combine shipments with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
