Description from the seller
Candido Lopez
"Franco Maria Ricci says: At the beginning there is Borges. To see Borges I went to Argentina. In Argentina I discovered Candido Lopez, the painter of the war in Paraguay. A war about which I knew nothing. I later learned that this war was the bloodiest of the wars of the nineteenth century. Of this war all that remains are Lopez's paintings, the painter-soldier who stubbornly painted with his left hand a war in which he had lost his right."
Book no. 18 in the Series The Signs of Man. Printed on blue-toned laid Fabriano paper and bound in black 'Orient' fabric with a color plate and gold tooling. Limited edition. The color plates are applied by hand. A library-case protects the book. Italian edition. Ex libris. Label affixed.
