Description from the seller
Antique library ladder that converts into a small table — turned wood
Elegant antique library ladder, made of solid wood, with refined lathe-turned legs and uprights, typical of late 19th / early 20th-century furnishing. This type of furniture was designed for private libraries, professional studies, and gentlemanly environments, where functionality and aesthetics had to coexist harmoniously.
The furniture features an ingenious transformable mechanism: in the closed position it presents itself as a compact side table; when opened, the surfaces flip out to reveal a two‑step ladder, designed to allow access to the higher shelves of bookcases and racks. A practical yet decorative piece of furniture, today highly sought after by collectors.
The structure is solid and well-proportioned. The wood retains a warm original patina, with normal signs of aging, light abrasions, and traces of use consistent with the age of the artifact, which attest to its authenticity. No invasive restorations are detected.
