Very large globe, 43 cm in diameter and about 76 cm high, made in Paris in the 1930s by Girard, Barrère et Thomas, using plaster, paper and wood with papier‑maché, in an antique‑inspired style, in poor condition with dents, cracks and non‑professional repairs.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very large globe with a 43 cm diameter made by Girard, Barrère et Thomas in the 1930s in Paris.
These large globes were used in the classrooms of the lycée (secondary school).
In the late 19th century, such large school globes were supplied by the J. Forest publishing house. This publishing house merged in the early 20th century with the publishing houses of Thomas and of Girard et Barrère, and continued at J. Forest's address on Rue de Buci in Paris.
What remains in these later school globes is the striking typography.
Such large globes are fairly rare and normally very expensive, usually around 1200 euros. This specimen is, however, quite damaged. There are several dents and cracks that have been repaired, but not by a professional restorer. One might consider having the globe restored after all.
But even in this condition it is nicely placeable and it is an impressive object that will surely be a conversation piece in the home’s interior design.
