Description from the seller
'Things here and things still to come' by José Pedro CORTES is interspersed with landscape and detailed views of the city of Tel Aviv - old cars, overgrown palm trees, colonnades, puddles of water. The book is included in 'Photobook: A History, VOL.III'.
Personal statement by the Portuguese photographer as background information
"During nine months I lived in Tel Aviv. During this period I met four young Jewish women who were born in the USA. They had all decided, at the age of 18, to go to Israel to do the military service. After completing the required two years of service, they decided to stay and live in this idyllic Middle Eastern city." (José Pedro CORTES)
Content
The images of four women in his self published photo volume 'Things here and things still to come' by José Pedro CORTES are interspersed with landscape and detailed views of the city - old cars, over grown palm trees, porticos, puddles of water. Mixing color and duotone, hard flash and natural light, the volume creates a sense of ambiguity placing the viewer in between the intimacy of the portraits and the deserted city of Tel Aviv." (Piere von Kleist, 2011)
Additional information
The photo volume 'Things here and things still to come' by Portguese photographer José Pedro CORTES is also included in Photobook: A History VOL.III by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger.
