Caturus sp., a predatory fish fossil from the Jura, Oberjura (163.5–145 million years), preserved and restored.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Predatory fish Caturus sp. from the world-famous Solnhofen Plattenkalk, Germany.

This piece is a split fossil from an old collection. Consequently, the fish is partly preserved as a detailed negative imprint.

The head is in very good condition. The predatory fish jaw with its many sharp teeth is clearly visible.

The tail fin is also interesting: it additionally has two smaller tail fin lobes near the base of the tail. Only about 20% of these fish (and almost always larger specimens) show this anatomical peculiarity.

The fossil has been preserved. Smaller areas of the fossil were minimally colored. The reddish coloration of the slab is completely natural.

The Caturus is about 26 cm long.

The stand visible in the photo is not part of the offer and will not be included.
