Antique 19th‑century commemorative oval frame photograph from Central Europe, dating circa 1870–1900, in a turned wooden frame with glass and silk floral decoration, featuring a formal couple and three German inscription cartouches, with outer dimensions 42 × 37 cm and inner 34 × 30 cm, weighing about 1 kg, made of wood, wax, paper and silk, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Rare and elegant 19th-century commemorative painting from Central Europe of German-speaking area (Germany / Austria / Bohemia), dating to the end of the 19th century.
The artwork is enclosed in an oval frame made of turned black wood, original to the period, completed with intact convex glass. In the center, there is an original vintage photograph depicting a couple in ceremonial attire, probably the bride and groom.
The photograph is enhanced by a refined three-dimensional floral decoration, consisting of silk flowers, a highly decorative feature and nowadays particularly sought after in nineteenth-century Central European commemorative artifacts.
On the sides and at the bottom, three cartouches in German are applied, printed on decorated paper, with commemorative and religious texts. The central cartouche clearly bears the inscription: “Erinnerung an die Vermählungsfeier” (Memory of the wedding celebration).
This type of object was made as a permanent keepsake of the marital union, intended for home display and imbued with symbolic and emotional value.
Authentic antique object.
