Description from the seller
Refined and sumptuous antique double bedspread, characterized by a complex loom-work in Brocade/Damask style. The fabric has a silky sheen that lends iridescent elegance depending on exposure to light; it could also be a blend of cotton and rayon silk, because to the touch the fabric is heavy yet cool, typical of high-quality textile productions from the mid-20th century. The central panel is richly decorated with a medallion in the shape of a basket overflowing with flowers (roses and small buds), surrounded by elegant Baroque scrolls and floral garlands. Dimensions: 210 × 220 cm plus 18 cm of knotted fringe (macramé). Colors: antique gold, bronze, beige and ivory white. History: From a mid-20th-century family trousseau (grandmother’s heirloom). Condition: Excellent state of preservation, handcrafted workmanship. A substantial perimeter border frames the bed surface with Greek-key motifs and decorative scrolls, maintaining perfect symmetry. The piece is adorned on three sides with a majestic knotted fringe (hand-knotted macramé), extremely full and dramatic, which gives movement and prominence to the item. Colors: A sophisticated palette in tones of antique gold, bronze and champagne beige, with ivory-white accents on the floral reliefs that create a beautiful three-dimensional effect. I also photographed the reverse side... beautiful despite the years that have passed.
