As with the other books in this series, a strong case could be made that these portraits of a long-lost times are more 'Art' than 'Ethnography', but however these photos are viewed, there is a profound sense of time and place which cannot help capture the imagination.

Hugo A. Bernatzik travelled for over a year, between 1932 and 1933, to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Bali.
