Gaja Sperss, 2000, Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, 0.75 L bottle, 1 bottle.
Description from the seller
Up for auction is a pristine bottle of Gaja Sperss, vintage 2000.
"Sperss" (meaning "nostalgia" in the Piedmontese dialect) is one of Angelo Gaja's most iconic wines. Sourced from the prestigious terroir of Serralunga d'Alba, this wine captures the power and structure typical of Barolo, though Gaja famously declassified it to "Langhe Nebbiolo" to allow for a small addition of Barbera (approx. 6%) in the blend, perfecting its balance.
Vintage Report (2000): The 2000 vintage in Piedmont was warm and generous, producing wines with ripe fruit, round tannins, and early accessibility. Today, this wine is well into its ideal drinking window, offering a complex, fully resolved experience. Critics like Robert Parker and Antonio Galloni have rated this vintage highly (94-96 points), praising its layers of dark fruit, tar, and truffle.
Bottle Condition:
Fill Level: Excellent / Into Neck (High fill for its age, indicating perfect storage).
Label: Clean and fully legible, with minimal signs of aging (see photos).
Capsule: Intact and tight; Gaja logo clearly visible on top.
Provenance: From a private collection.
Tasting Notes (Expectations): At this stage in its evolution, you can expect a nose of dried rose petals, tar, black licorice, and truffle. On the palate, it should be full-bodied and velvety, with the tannins having softened into a silky texture. A monumental wine ready to be enjoyed now or kept for special occasions.
