The Bamileke are an important ethnic group in the West region of Cameroon, in the Grassland, a region of volcanic plateaus characterized by savannah landscapes.
This clay pipe dates from the early 20th century (1900–1940). This type of pipe was used during ceremonies called "chair ceremony".
Good overall condition. Minor missing piece on the front face. The rest is impeccable.
Terracotta bowl, natural dark brown pigments, tribal decoration. Wooden tube decorated with a metal alloy turned into a spiral on the upper part of the tube.
The hole at the bottom is for air intake during the draw (inhalation).
