Specimen: Bubble chamber photograph from the CERN 2m bubble chamber, plastic, 17 cm high, 5 cm wide, 0.1 cm deep, dating to 1960–1970, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Very rare object
A historical photograph of subatomic particle tracks taken inside a bubble chamber.
Particle Physics Data: These photographs were a primary method for detecting and recording the trajectories of charged particles in the mid-20th century. This image was taken inside the CERN 2m bubble chamber used in the 60s and 70s, which alongside gargamelle made great progress towards the discovery of the W-boson.
Track Analysis: The curved lines represent the paths of particles bending in a magnetic field, allowing physicists to determine their momentum and charge.
Scientific Tool: Bubble chambers allowed researchers to visualize complex interactions and collisions between particles.
Historical Context: This specific type of image was commonly used in experiments at major research centers like CERN during the 1960s and 1970s.
Provenance: I obtained this photograph whilst studying particle physics at CERN. These are not available for purchase.
