Description from the seller
Splendid Art Nouveau-era jewelry box, with its interior lining in original fabric and a small key included.
The lid features several relief figures, including a winged putto (or cherub/angel) who writes on a tablet, surrounded by butterflies and floral motifs, two birds perched on a branch, and a scene of houses along a lake shore with a rowboat moored at the shore.
The four sides are also decorated in bas-relief with floral motifs and landscapes.
Engraving on the lid "Brescia Exhibition May 29, 1904".
The Brescia Exhibition of 1904, inaugurated by King Vittorio Emanuele III, was a grand trade and industrial fair held at the Castle to celebrate local economic progress. With over 2,000 exhibitors and half a million visitors, it showcased agricultural, industrial (including Glisenti), artistic and sporting excellences, marking the modernization of the city.
The box is in excellent condition for its age, with slight loss of silvering and a small dent on the top edge of the lid.
