Yashica Electro 35 GT, model 35 GT, tested and working, in good cosmetic condition, produced circa 1970–1980.
Description from the seller
Here is a splendid Yashica Electro 35 GT, the black ("paint") version of the famous Electro 35, produced in Japan between 1969 and 1973. This rangefinder camera is renowned for its fixed Color-Yashinon DX 45mm f/1.7 lens, an exceptionally bright and sharp optic that earned it the nickname the "Leica of the poor."
The Electro 35 GT is an aperture-priority camera with an electronic Copal Elec shutter, capable of handling exposure times from a full 30 seconds up to 1/500 second in fully automatic operation. To function properly, it originally required a 5.6V mercury battery (PX32), now discontinued; however, it can be easily powered with a modern 6V 4LR44 battery adapter or with DIY solutions, which are readily available online.
The unit for sale is in excellent cosmetic condition, with the black paint well preserved (often subject to wear on the edges in these models) and complete with its original carry bag and the lens cap. An important detail to verify on these cameras is the famous "pad of death" (an internal rubber cushion that absorbs the shutter): if you hear a solid, satisfying "thunk" when you wind and shoot, it means it is still in good condition. It is a fantastic camera for night street photography thanks to its ability for long automatic exposures.
