Description from the seller
Vintage wooden plant stand - tea cozy with removable brass inner bucket - ca. 1970–1980
Special vintage tea cozy also usable as a plant stand from the 1970s–1980s, made of solid wood with a removable brass inner bucket with handle. A decorative and historically inspired object that adds warmth and character to any interior.
This tea cozy is made of warm reddish-brown wood, presumably mahogany or a comparable tropical hardwood. The top edge and base are finished with subtle gold-colored decorative lines, giving it an elegant look. The turned wooden spindles around the brass inner bucket and the three round ball feet give the piece a classic, lightly colonial style.
The brass bucket is removable and equipped with a handle. Note: the bucket is not completely watertight.
Original function
Originally, a tea cozy served to keep a teapot warm. In the brass inner bucket, a heat source (for example a small stove or charcoal) was placed, after which the teapot was set on top of the cozy. This kept tea at temperature for extended tea moments—a practice popular in earlier times.
Contemporary use
Today this tea cozy is particularly versatile:
- As a decorative plant or flower stand
- For stylish storage of firewood
- As a umbrella stand
- Or as a characterful decorative object in the hall, living room, or conservatory
Thanks to the warm wood tone and the brass accent, this piece fits beautifully in a classic, country, colonial, or eclectically styled interior. It also provides a tasteful contrast in a modern interior.
