Nine vintage Japanese hand planes (Kanna) with wooden bodies and steel blades, made in Japan in the 1990s, in good condition with signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Item Overview
This auction features a curated set of 9 Vintage Japanese Hand Planes (Kanna). These tools are the backbone of traditional Japanese architecture and fine furniture making. Each plane consists of a hand-forged steel blade (typically a combination of hard high-carbon steel and soft iron) and a high-quality Japanese oak body (Dai).
Quantity: 9 pieces (Various sizes including standard and specialized planes).
Origin: Made in Japan.
Key Features: Several blades feature stamped "Kanji" markings, indicating the blacksmith's signature or "Registered" (登録) quality marks. These tools are renowned for their ability to produce paper-thin wood shavings and a mirror-like finish on timber.
Condition Details
Status: Vintage / Antique.
Body (Dai): The wooden bodies show a beautiful patina and signs of professional use over many years. There are some cracks, scratches, and wear consistent with age.
Blades: The blades show surface rust and oxidation, which is typical for vintage carbon steel. They will require sharpening and "honing" to return to their peak performance.
Storage: Kept in a smoke-free, climate-controlled environment to prevent further deterioration.
Important Notes for Buyers
Sold As-Is: These are vintage professional tools. Please inspect the photos carefully as they form part of the description.
Maintenance Required: To use these tools effectively, the buyer should have knowledge of Japanese tool maintenance (flattening the sole and sharpening the blade).
No Returns: In principle, returns are not accepted. To ensure a smooth transaction, we strongly recommend recording a continuous unboxing video upon arrival.
Shipping Information
Courier: Shipped via FedEx or Japan Post (depending on destination).
Tracking: A tracking number will be provided immediately after dispatch.
Packaging: Securely packed with shock-absorbing materials and moisture protection to ensure they arrive safely.
International Buyers – Please Note
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
