Description from the seller
Russian brass icon with enamel – Three Saints – 19th century
Beautiful Russian bronze icon with multicolored enamel, depicting three saints standing upright, executed in traditional Russian Orthodox style.
Description
This square brass icon shows three saints, each with a halo and depicted in a frontal pose. Two figures wear monastic robes and hold closed gospel books, while the figure on the left is depicted in warrior attire—perhaps a holy warrior such as Saint George or Saint Demetrius.
Above the figures there is an inscription in Church Slavonic script, as is common with Russian devotional items from the 19th century.
The icon is richly decorated with enamel in blue, white, and yellow/orange tones, creating a lively contrast with the warm patina of the bronze. The combination of cast relief and transparent enamel is characteristic of Russian icons from the 19th century, often produced in workshops that specialized in travel and household icons. Such icons served as personal devotion objects and stood as symbols of protection and spiritual guidance.
