Kitagawa Utamaro was an ukiyo-e artist active from the mid- to late Edo period. Recognized as an illustrator for kyōka picture books, Kitagawa Utamaro was discovered by the publisher Tsutaya Shōzaburō and took Edo by storm with his paintings of beautiful women. He established himself as one of Edo's most representative artists.
Numerous works by Utamaro are featured.
