Description from the seller

Baroque devotional cross in carved wood and gold leaf – Italy, 17th century (ca. 1800)

Ancient devotional cross carved from solid wood, with the front covered in original gold leaf gilding, made in Italy in the 19th century (circa 1800–1850).
The cross features a refined trilobed silhouette, with rounded terminals and a soft profile, typical of late Mannerist and early Baroque production, widespread especially in the central and northern Italian milieu.
The gilded surface shows an authentic antique patina, with natural signs of time, micro-abrasions and light oxidations consistent with the object's age, with no modern restorations. The back is left natural, in keeping with the practice of the period.
At the base there is an original wooden dowel, which suggests its original placement on a small altar, private chapel, or devotional niche.
A object of great historical, decorative, and collectible allure, ideal for both collectors of sacred art and high-end interior design.

Period: 19th century (ca. 1800–1850)
Origin: Italy
Material: carved and gold-leaf gilded wood
Technique: plaster and bole preparation, gold leaf gilding
Dimensions: height 17.5 cm – width 14 cm
Condition: good, with wear consistent with age, preserved original patina
