Daunian terracotta kyathos with a loop handle, dating to ca. 550–500 B.C., height 11 cm and diameter 12.5 cm, in intact condition with minor nicks, provenance including a 2025 purchase from a Swiss private collection and prior ownership in England, Switzerland and Denmark.
Description from the seller
Tall-walled terracotta kyathos with a loop handle. Light-brown clay with finely preserved black and red painting. On the base of the bowl there are typical red and black circles as well as red dots with parallels in the scholarly literature (see photo in the literature). Inside and outside, it is painted with black and red bands. On the underside there is a four-spoked wheel.

ORIGIN: Southern Italy
PERIOD: 550–500 BCE.
Dimensions: Height: 11 cm (without handle: 5.5 cm), Diameter: 12.5 cm (without handle: 10.7 cm)
WEIGHT: 205 grams
CONDITION: Intact. With minor dents, as shown in the pictures.
PROVENANCE: Acquired in 2025 from an antiquities online shop; previously a Swiss private collection B.M. (acquired in 2006); prior to that, the Clive Sawyer Collection, England. A copy of the invoice for the 2025 acquisition will be made available to the buyer upon request.
