Description from the seller

Kilim of Eastern Anatolia
Early 20th century

Magnificent hand-woven kilim in natural wool, from Eastern Anatolia. Dated to the early 20th century (circa 1910–1930), it illustrates the art of nomadic tribes that blended ancestral symbolism with geometric mastery.

The design alternates horizontal bands of motifs “elibelinde” and “koçboynuzu” – stylized female figures and ram horns symbolizing respectively fertility, strength, and protection. The central diamonds, often interpreted as “protective eyes,” express the longing for spiritual balance and inner harmony.
The undulating shapes recall the fluidity of life and the natural forces that these weavers invoked through their art.

The palette of madder red, earth brown, midnight blue, and ivory comes from natural plant dyes—madder for red, indigo for blue, walnut for browns, undyed wool for whites.

This kilim expresses a harmony between order and vitality. It is a piece that is both decorative and spiritual, a witness to the symbolic language of nomadic weavers. A collectible piece.
