Description from the seller

Bronze box or casket on the theme of the armorial bearings of Anne of Brittany and produced by Max Le Verrier in the 1960s. Signed in relief on the back. The piece has preserved a beautiful brown patina.

Max Le Verrier is a French sculptor best known for his elegant figurative works. Whether depicting dancers, animals, or lighting fixtures, Le Verrier composes his pieces in an Art Deco style. Born Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier on January 29, 1891 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, the artist was sent to an internment camp in Switzerland during World War I. He then studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, where he created his first terracotta-based statuettes. Upon his return to France after the war, Le Verrier opened his own studio. The outbreak of World War II forced him to flee to the south; he would later return to Paris, where he lived and worked until his death on June 6 at the age of 82. The Maison Max Le Verrier continues the tradition of the artist's workshop at Kremlin Bicêtre.
