Elegant pair of French wall appliques in finely carved and gilded wood, made in the Louis XV style (Rococo revival) dating from the early 20th century.

The structures feature rich rocaille decoration with asymmetric volutes, vegetal motifs, and a top shell, typical of Louis XV taste. The carving is well defined and hand-made, with a natural, sculptural movement of the shapes.

The gilding, applied over a ground prepared with red bole, shows age-consistent wear with the underlying support emerging, an element that attests to its authenticity and historic patina.

The candle-arm brackets are wrought iron, with natural oxidation consistent with the period. Later electrical wiring.
